What I love the most about the GreenAid is not the play on words of this nifty little piece of design: It's the functionality. Eco bags have become a crazy cottage industry, but few actually do more than be a mess when they're not filled with product. This one tucks into its soft grenade and hooks onto a belt loop or bag strap when you're walking to the market.

Create beauty, not war. We just got these porcelain vases in store. A hidden feature is the peace sign at the base. Even empty, the piece is striking.
Earth--or at least Planet L.A.--is burning up, so nothing beats this ingenious little ice maker-ice chiller combined. Also love that the Ice Orb doesn't take up a lot of space in a fridge already crammed with Andy's stock-up of fileted eels and buffalo burgers.

Connecting the dots of a developing cultural trend is an irresistible compulsion that I can at least write off as part of the job.
So even if the link ties only two points (as of yet, at least), spotting the reference to "crust" as inspiration for two parties in two very different arenas, and different parts of the globe, seemed like the start of something.
Asked about the direction for his Fall 09 collection in the Vice interview plugged in yesterday's post (see below), Paris-based provocateur Rick Owens says he was "starting with the word 'crust' and looking at more extreme texture. Crust being a protective layer, which made me think of vulnerability."
A world away at Santa Monica's Unknown Theater this weekend, the avant garde Hysterica Dance Company is flirting with the concept of stifling the excess layers of "heightened glamour" encrusting the dancers, only to be stripped away to reveal the "beautiful reality of the human form." The new work, co-directed by Kitty McNamee and Ryan Heffington, is aptly called "Crust."
Coincidence? While it's likely the former L.A. designer is unaware of the dance production, it's fated to be filed under zeitgeist one day. That's simply the way the bread crumbles.
Finishing his thoughts on his inspiration, Rick adds, "Not sure what I’m going to do with that yet. To tell the truth, it’s usually afterward, when it’s done, that I can analyze where it came from. Until then, I try not to think too much."
