Hermès Hits the Road with Smart Car
Magnifique! The Fortwo édition Toile Smart Car by Hermès
Magnifique! The Fortwo édition Toile Smart Car by Hermès
Imagine getting from L.A. to New York inside a Birkin bag and on less than 42 gallons of petrol…
It’s no Alice in Fashionland dream. To celebrate the 10th birthday of the Fortwo model, Smart Car collaborated with Hermès on what has to be the ultimate in accessories for the status conscious environmentalist. (Yes, cars, like small dogs, are accessories of a kind in L.A.)
This is no Corinthian-covered gas guzzler. That’s, indeed, the luxury house’s signature leather on the steering wheel and seats, as well as the original canvas toile H. Although lime and fuschia skins are offered, the most in demand hue will undoubtedly be Hermès orange.
Smell the orange...
Smell the orange...
Otherwise, the Como group-made Fortwo édition Toile Smart Car shares many of the same features as its working-class sibling, the two-seater that first debuted in 1998 at the Paris Motor Show and boasts a MPG of 46.3 in town—and an impressive 68.9 on the highway (to Gotham or elsewhere).
And while the price on a regular Smart Car is still less than a Birkin bag, these haute rods will set you back $48,565 (38,000 Euros).
Stylish and sensible.
Stylish and sensible.

Love this contrast of the old of Paris against the new. Design is simply an extension of time.
